Police museum-virtual selfies, dog shows, more.

You can soon visit the Tamil Nadu Police Museum at Egmore and do all these from clicking a virtual selfie beside your favorite constable to having fun puppy display games and experiencing thrilling 3D police games while eating delicious food.

In the Indo-Saracenic building which housed the police commissionerate from 1856 to 2014, there is a repository of exhibits through which the journey from the colonial past to the present day is narrated using sophisticated technology.

There are all kinds of things like knives as well as pistols including Thompson Sub-machine Guns, Sten Guns, 303 Rifles with Bayonet, 3.8 Revolvers, 9MM Browning Pistols, Sniper Guns and Grenade Launchers.

Ever since 2021 when it was opened to the public, footfalls have been on the rise. The 16000 plus footfalls, most of whom are between 10 and 24 years old, have been recorded this year. “We want to bring back dog shows as this will increase the footfalls,” suggested Bharat Raj Curator adding that there is a plan for an amphitheater whose size will be 3,800 square feet at the museum’s back where people can hold different events.

A police senior officer said that a 3D facility related to police is being planned “Police will also plan a virtual reality selfie point using augmented reality “Visitors can key-in their best police officer’s name and a holographic image will appear once they press enter” Food festivals are also on the anvil once colleges and schools reopen.”

Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation included the museum in their half day tour itinerary. TTDC website considers the Corporation as one of the top city attractions.”

Other than using banners for the main points in our town, the police chief, Sandeep Rai Rathore, gave us some postcards that have information about the museum so that we can remember its second birthday. He also mentioned in passing that there would be a lift installed.

According to some of the visitors, there is a requirement for a central air cooler particularly when virtual reality and 3-D games are introduced. However there should be something to promote them. These auto drivers do not know about tis despite being present in the city. A visitor named Mikhail explained,” They took me to Egmore Museum, India”.
