Shelter Dog Christmas Adoption Draco Awaits Forever Home Miami

One particular dog is still longing to receive the gift he desires most, a forever home at Miami-Dade Animal Services. Draco, a five-year-old shelter dog, is spending his third Christmas at the facility. Staff hope this holiday season will bring him the family he deserves.

The life of Draco has not been easy. Almost three years ago, he came to the Miami-Dade Animal Services in heartbreaking condition. He was terribly malnourished, he was neglected, and obviously not merely in need of food and shelter.

Shelter officials said Draco’s case was particularly alarming because someone had adopted him when he was younger. This led to an investigation after he went back to the shelter because of his mangled state of abuse and severe neglect.

However, despite his troubled history, the story of Draco is one of survival and change.

From Neglect to New Beginnings

After returning to the shelter, Miami-Dade Animal Services enrolled Draco in its enrichment medical and behavioral program, designed to support animals’ physical and emotional recovery. With the help of special care, patience, and professional assistance, Draco gradually recovered his health and confidence.

Shelter staff say the progress he made has been remarkable.

Key milestones in Draco’s recovery include:

• Adding body weight and reestablishing a healthy body.
• Medical treatment and behavioral enrichment.
• Finishing an apprenticeship course in central Florida.
• Acquiring simple obedience skills.
• Forming a composed, docile, and submissive character.

Draco even went to a special training camp where he learnt to react to various environments in a calm manner, and he mastered the commands. He is now said to be well behaved, loving, and full of pleasing.

Still Waiting to Be Chosen

No matter how much he has made in his progress, Draco remains neglected. Other dogs get adopted, but he stays behind and observes families entering and leaving. Staff members at the shelter claim that they can hardly imagine why such a loving and well-trained dog would not find his permanent home by now.

What Draco is hoping for now isn’t complicated.

He needs:

• A stable, loving home
• He had a family that cared for and attended to him.
• A secure surrounding in which he will not feel neglected anymore.
• Men and women who will remember him for the rest of their lives.
  

The representatives of the shelter promote the idea that it is equally important to find the right family as any family. They do not want Draco to be put in a similar position to the one that got him back to the shelter.
