Rescued Husky Oslo is the heart of the documentary Oslo – A Tail of Promise, which started streaming on 29 July. The inspiring film tells the story of a Siberian Husky who was abandoned by six families before he was six months old.
This is the true story of conservation biologist Pooja Bhale and her rescue dog, Oslo. The rescued Husky changed her life and inspired a movement focused on compassion, adoption, and living in harmony with nature.
Oslo had been rejected numerous times before he found his forever family. The young Husky was frightened and anxious and had a hard time in several homes.
It all changed when Pooja Bhale took him in. She thought that she was saving Oslo, but later she came to understand that the relationship had changed her life too.
I thought that we had rescued Oslo and adopted him. However, little did I know that it was I who was getting rescued,” Bhale admits in the documentary.
In the next 12 years, 8 months and 19 days, Oslo evolved into more than just a pet; she was her greatest teacher.
Oslo – A Tale of Promise is about three essential concepts:
These messages have the power to shift the perspective of viewers on animals and their duty towards them.
Pooja Bhale is the founder of Protecterra Ecological Foundation, an ecological sanctuary in Pune, near the city, where more than 40 rescued animals are residing, inspired by Oslo.
The organisation is not only committed to animal welfare, but also to environmental education and compassionate living.
Over 150 children come to Protecterra each month to reconnect with nature through the animals that have been rescued.
The programmes are dedicated to kindness, empathy and caring for the environment, and the children have the opportunity to get up close and personal with animals and to understand the need for coexistence.
Pooja and Oslo made it to Himachal every May to try out the snowy habitat to which their breed is naturally suited.
Though she survived the cold as low as -15°C, Oslo instilled in her one thing she will never forget, says Bhale.
“Nature communicates; all we have to do is listen.”
Oslo – A Tail of Promise is more than a tale of a saved Husky. It’s a wonderful reminder to the people who are adopting and the people who have been adopted.
The film conveys the lessons from Oslo’s experience and encourages viewers to adopt rather than purchase pets, to treat animals with dignity, and to bear in mind that there are many more animals living on Earth than humans.
Oslo – A Tail of Promise is an inspiring documentary about rescue, hope, and compassion. It shows how one adoption can transform lives.
