Stray Dogs Share Their Independence Day Wish Today

Dogs

On the day of Independence each year, India celebrates its independence with its flag, songs, and all sorts of celebrations. This year’s Independence Day, however, would mean hearing from the voiceless, homeless India, its street dogs.

While we may be unable to comprehend the concept of independence in terms, we do understand what it is like to scavenge for food, seek shelter from heavy rains, and stay away from being run over by cars and beaten up. It is this day that we would request some compassion and shelter for ourselves.

Dear India, We Are Your Stray Dogs

We live on your streets, around your houses and markets. You see us every day, but you might not always see us.

We observe children going to schools, people coming back to their homes, and festivals being celebrated together. Some of us are blessed with food and love from good-hearted people, while others search for food and a place to sleep every night.

We do not demand anything much on this Independence Day; all we ask of you is to remember us.

What We Wish For
  1. A meal when we are hungry
  2. Clean drinking water during hot days
  3. A safe place to rest
  4. Kindness instead of cruelty
  5. Medical help when we are injured
  6. Protection from unnecessary harm
  7. A chance to live peacefully alongside people

Freedom Should Include Compassion

Independence Day is a celebration that reminds us of the importance of freedom. To a stray dog, freedom is just being able to walk, sleep, and exist without fear.

We don’t need to spend money on costly presents. You could put out a bowl of water from your house. Giving leftovers, calling for an animal rescue service for any hurt dog, or just not beating an animal helps a lot.

Simple good actions can become the whole world of another person.

Be Kind to the Dogs Around You

As you celebrate this Independence Day by enjoying freedom in your country, take time to notice your environment. There is a likelihood that there is a stray dog lying by the side of a store or underneath a tree to avoid the sun’s heat.

In case you can afford to offer anything, please do so. In case the dog looks hurt, try to contact the relevant animal protection agency for help.

Most importantly, be patient with street animals. They are alive beings who are scared, hungry, hurt, and affectionate like any other animals.

A Different Independence Day Wish

This year, let our celebrations have something more to convey than just flags and fireworks.

“On this Independence Day, let dogs be free from starvation and cruelty and have a shelter for themselves. And above all, bestow upon us the empathy we deserve.”

The Independence Day of India symbolizes freedom. But this Independence Day, let it symbolize something else too – compassion.

This Independence Day, celebrate your freedom. Shower your kindness. Speak up for the voiceless. 🐾🇮🇳
