Tsunami worked with his handler, Jorge Breens, as part of an elite disaster rescue team. His intelligence, tenacity, and well-trained searching abilities assisted in locating people who required immediate help.

The Border Collie’s achievements include:

From Stray Puppy to Tsunami Rescue Hero

Tsunami’s story is especially extraordinary because he did not have a clear destiny from birth to become a rescue dog. According to reports, Tsunami was discovered on the streets of Caracas in an emaciated state by Anita Vidal.

Once he received treatment, Tsunami was able to show his intellectual and lively nature. Breens identified his potential and started training him at the K-SAR ECID Disaster Canine Training Center.

It was due to the training that Tsunami received his certification as a disaster rescue dog.

A Well-Deserved Retirement

Tsunami is 8 years old now and ready to retire from his rescue missions. The statue commemorates all the lives that he has saved and how dedicated he has been all through his life.

Beside his statue, Tsunami seemed like he was in the middle of a celebration for not just one amazing dog but the strong connection between the animal and man.
