Almost seven years after entering active service, Northamptonshire police dogs PD Bryn and PD Ebby will be retiring in just a few days. Having served alongside their officers since early 2020, the dogs have been recognized for their dedication while on duty.
In all their career periods, Ebby and Bryn cooperated closely with their trainers and with policemen. They assisted the policemen to find missing persons, trace suspects, and even look for evidence.
The two dogs had to be disciplined and focused throughout their tasks. In addition to that, they formed close ties with their trainers during operations.
The two police dogs contributed to their community by:
PD Bryn has a unique connection with Northamptonshire Police in that the police department named him after a police dog who was killed by shooting in 1998.
It is due to this connection that Bryn has attained unique importance compared to all other members of the force. However, he has also created a place for himself in the years of his service.
Lucy Sculthorpe, Bryn’s handler, referred to her experience with Bryn as an honor. Lucy appreciated Bryn’s dedication and his character, and she believed that he deserved a peaceful retirement period.
Recently, Northamptonshire Police has hosted a retirement ceremony at its headquarters in honor of Bryn and Ebby. Colleagues, handlers, supporters, and representatives of the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals were present at the ceremony.
At the ceremony, Supt Kelly Glister appreciated both dogs for their contributions to the force. Both dogs have been described by her as outstanding ambassadors for the Northamptonshire Police Dog Section.
This ceremony has provided an opportunity for colleagues to celebrate the memories and accomplishments of the dogs.
It is time for Bryn and Ebby to retire from their working life and move into a more relaxing schedule with their family members. Bryn will retire on Wednesday, whereas Ebby will retire on Friday.
On the other hand, Northamptonshire Police is preparing itself for the future. There are two puppies, PD Blaize and PD Theo, who are under assessment and will start training next month.
Bryn and Ebby may not go out to patrol or support the officers anymore, but their efforts have left a mark. Most importantly, they deserve to relax and be with their family after many years of hard work for the good of their community.
