Luke entered the life of Steven approximately seven years ago when he was being rescuedfromn a working horse farm. Luke was a blind man; however, he was soon to establish that his disability was not his. He is not careful or afraid; in fact, he is extremely confident and eager to explore the world.

Due to the fact that Luke cannot usehise sense of sight, his other senses have developed to a very sharp sense. His smell and hearing senses can make him know what happens around him and sense the slightest environmental change. Although at times he collides with objects, the obstacle never holds him back in his exploration or in his fun and adventure of life.

At home, Luke has learnt the location of everything. His owners ensure that they do not move furniture without any necessity to ensure that he moves freely. As soon as he gets excited, he would bump into stuff, but that appears to only further his resolve to continue on.

Luke is of normal Australian shepherd build with beautiful coloring of grey, white, brown, and black hair. Although his eyes are cloudy with age, there is a spark of life in them.

He is a merry person and appears to tell when one of his surroundings is in a bad mood. This is what makes him so special to his family: his ability to console others. Luke has a way of making people smile just because he is his merry little man.

Luke, like most of the shepherds, does exhibit his instincts of herding. He even tries to lead pigeons that fall on the grass, crouching in the traditional shepherd pose as though he is an employer of a flock. Although he is unable to discern them well, his intuitions are still powerful.

Luke, too,o has what he likes and dislikes. He likes bone chewing and scratching behind the ear. But noises of high pitch are not well tolerated by him. Being in California, he has to cope with fireworks during the Fourth of July, the most unpopular holiday that has become his least favorite.

Blind Dog Story: How Luke Helped His Owner During Hard Times

The presence of Luke was particularly important at an extreme time in the life of Steven. Steven developed two heart attacks and was forced to be admitted to the hospital last year. In the meantime, Luke was in heavy distress, sorely missing his master.

As Steven finally came home, Luke refused to leave him. His devotion and love helped him feel better in the recovery process. To a large extent, Luke’s unconditional love for Luke enabled Steven to feel better and have a new purpose.

When Luke tells people that he is blind, people are always sorry. Steven and his family, however, perceive him in a totally different light. Luke has a good and happy lifewitho them where he is inquisitive, loving, and determined.

Similar to the case of Luke, who sometimes hits hiccups but continues to drive forward, individuals are capable of confronting their own challenges fearlessly.

The life of Luke is also a significant factor in reminding us that there are limitations that can be overcome through love, strength, and perseverance. The brave nature and continuous happiness of Luke have inspired his family to look at life from a different perspective.

To Steven, Luke is not just a pet. He is a friend, an educator, a wake-up call that, despite the challenges in this life, there is something to keep going on.
