Alaskan Klee Kai

In the early Nineteen Seventies, The Alaskan Klee Kai originated in Alaska, while Linda Spurlin and her family preferred a companion-sized version of the Alaskan Husky. Through the 1970s and 1980s, the Spurlin’s cautiously selected and bred puppies held to their excellent standards for appearance and physical and mental soundness, therefore developing this rare breed. The Alaskan Klee Kai became available to the general public in 1988. Although Spurlin is known as the breed the Klee Kai, that’s an Inuit term meaning “small dog,” it was renamed the Alaskan Klee Kai in 1995, earlier than being officially identified by the United Kennel Club in 1997.

Temperement

Like different small breeds, the loyal and alert Alaskan Klee Kai is territorial and makes for an excellent watchdog. However, he may be aloof and careful amongst strangers and is pleasant and affectionate with his human family. The Alaskan Klee Kai is curious, active, and intelligent; the Alaskan Klee Kai plays well with kids and different dogs, though he won’t be suitable for a domestic with pets smaller than him because of his excessive prey drive. Training is excellent.

Upkeep

Despite the Alaskan Klee Kai’s thick double coat that fairly sheds, his grooming wishes are minimal. He usually enjoys grooming himself, so beyond ordinary brushing and occasional bathing, in addition to regular teeth brushing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning, not much maintenance is needed. However, keep in mind the Alaskan Klee Kai sheds seasonally and might require extra grooming. Highly energetic, lively, and quick, the Alaskan Klee Kai requires lots of exercises, along with free play in a fenced backyard or leashed walks, to avoid turning excessively strung or anxious.
