A local breed to Belgium dating back to the 1800s that was developed to herd sheep, the Belgian Shepherd Dog has become famous for its clever, adaptable working canine skills. The Club due Chien de Berger Belge (Belgian Shepherd Dog Club) was shaped in 1891 as a method to define consistency for those native dogs, which were the same anatomically but distinct in terms of their coat texture, length, and color. Of those types, the black long-haired canine was referred to as Groenendael; the fawn rough-haired canine, Laekenois; the fawn short-haired masked canine, Malinois; and fawn long-haired masked canine, Tervuren. Having been imported to the USA in the 1900s, today, those four sorts are considered a single breed, the Belgian Shepherd Dog, as identified by the United Kennel Club since 1991.

Temperement

Alert, shrewd and inquisitive, the Belgian Shepherd Dog is also a loyal, vigilant watchdog and eager-to-please, tenacious guardian for his human family. Although relatively reserved around strangers, the Belgian Shepherd Dog is warm and pleasant with the ones he adores.Tra9ning is adorable.

Upkeep

The Belgian Shepherd Dog is familiar with a live life outdoors. As such, he requires lots of daily exercises, consisting of a long stroll or free play in a fenced yard, in addition to sufficient mental stimulation. Proper training and socialization are a need for this sensitive breed, as is an assured and company owner to be the alpha. As the Belgian Shepherd Dog is a real herding breed, take precautions with children, as his natural herding tendencies can kick in. He does well with different puppies and pets, too, provided he’s been properly introduced. It has a long, straight coat that sheds heavily seasonally. Everyday brushing is needed, along with occasional bath and regular nail trimming, teeth brushing, and ear cleaning.
