In red, white, and blue colors, the American English Coonhound is as all-American as you could get–except, of course, for the English part. Created from English hunting hounds introduced to America during the 17th and eighteenth centuries, the breed’s first American incarnation was called the Virginia Hound. Selective breeding produced a dog better suitable for the tangled terrain of the southeastern United States and for looking at various mammals, including fox, raccoon, and sometimes opossum, bear, and cougar. In 1905, the UKC identified the breed as the English Fox and Coonhound. The name was finally shortened to English Coonhound, which continues to be its name with the UKC. When the AKC identified them in 2011, they took the name from the parent club, the American English Coonhound Association. Nobody objected to the Americanization because, by that period, they were American citizens. To increase the confusion, many humans call them Redtick Coonhounds because most have the red ticked pattern—even though they also are available in different combinations of red, blue, and white. The Bluetick and Treeing Walker Coonhounds were initially a part of the identical breed till the mid-1940s. Although most American English are red ticked, a few are still tri-colored or blue ticked like their Bluetick and Walker relatives. The breed embodies the American work—and play—ethic. Its primary function has always been that of an excellent-looking hound. Top hunters command top dollar, known for their speed, endurance, and melodious voice.

Upkeep

 

Although pretty quiet inside, that is a canine that lives for the outdoors. It wishes to absorb new smells and have the chance to analyze scents each day. An appropriate everyday jog will fulfill its exercise requirements. Inside, the food needs to be appropriately saved out of reach. Coat care includes occasional brushing. Its loud bay is freely given.
