“The Hamiltonstovare was developed in the late 1800s by Count Adolf Patrick Hamilton, founder of the Swedish Kennel Club, to hunt fox and hare in Sweden’s mountainous and forested terrain and harsh climate. The breed was created by crossing English Foxhounds and Harriers and Curlandish Hounds, Holsteiner Hounds, and Heiderbrackes, 3 German breeds that are now extinct. The Hamiltonstovare was first exhibited in Sweden in 1921, while the breed was called the Swedish Hound. The name has since been modified to honor Count Hamilton, whose Hamiltonstovare is famous in Sweden for the conventional hunting purpose for which he was bred.
The Hamiltonstovare remains a rare breed in the USA. The United Kennel Club has identified him as a member of its Scenthound Group since 2006. He is a part of the American Kennel Club’s Foundation Stock Service during the breed’s further development.”

However, the Harrier is quite extra playful and outgoing than the Foxhound, not as much as the Beagle. This canine is amiable, tolerant, well with children, and likes to sniff and trail. For that reason, the Harrier requires everyday exercise or training in a particular region or on a leash. Most are reserved with strangers. Like many hounds, the Harrier has a tendency to bay, and a few may bay or bark if bored or lonely.
The Harrier desires every day exercise, whose requirements may be met with an extended stroll or jog and energetic play in your yard. The coat is easily cared for, desiring only occasional brushing to eliminate dead hair. Harriers are very gregarious pack hounds and as such do not do well if left alone for a long period. Most are happiest with another canine to play with.
