The Smooth Fox Terrier’s ancestors aren’t documented; however, the breed was recognized by 1800. Predominantly white puppies had been desired because they could be more easily prominent from the quarry in dim lighting. Some hypothesis exists that the Smooth and Wire Fox Terriers arose from different backgrounds, with the Smooth descending from the smooth-coated Black and Tan, the Bull Terrier, or even the Greyhound and Beagle. The Smooth Fox Terriers were most of the first breeds to go into the show ring, classified initially with the Sporting breeds. The types had been interbred drastically at one time; however, the practice steadily declined. Because the 2 breeds had long since ceased to be crossed by the latter a part of the 1900s, the AKC divided them into separate breeds in 1985.

The Fox Terrier is energetic, bold, feisty, mischievous, playful, training, inquisitive, independent, and adventurous. This breed loves to chase, run, and explore. He is generally pretty reserved with strangers. He tends to bark and dig.
The Smooth Fox Terrier is lively and can’t be ignored. As an energetic dog, he’ll do a lot to exercise himself given the room. He enjoys an energetic sport or walk, in addition to an off-lead trip in a secure area. Smooth coat care includes weekly brushing to get rid of shedding hair. In fact, the Smooths shed more than the Wires.
