Kolkata event advocates animal-rights, promotes pet-adoption

The second edition of Furr-a-thon took place on February 26th, showcasing a collective endeavor to raise awareness for animal rights and promote the adoption of Indian breed animals. The event exuded positivity with wagging tails, joyful barks, and affectionate kisses being the highlights. A sense of camaraderie prevailed among the approximately 80 participants and their furry companions from across the city, who engaged in various activities including a 2 km run with pets and a 4 km run without pets.

Rumela Mitra, one of the organizers, expressed the organization’s founding vision of creating a safe world where animals peacefully coexist with humans and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about animal cruelty to unite animal lovers and welfare workers against it.

SK Basit, another member of the organizing committee, underscored the need for stronger laws against animal cruelty, stressing that every life holds immeasurable value and advocating for widespread support for such legislation.

Actor Anindhya Chaterjee, a devoted animal lover and chief guest at the event, commended the organization’s efforts, particularly in addressing emergency situations. Having been associated with the organization for three years and being the proud parent of six furry companions himself, Chaterjee expressed delight in witnessing the growth and success of the event over the years.
