Bengaluru RWA implements a Rs 10,000 fee for pet ownership in flats.

Owning a pet in bengaluru is extra expensive as the RWA is out to enforce a strict rule  that every parent must pay an amount of Rs – 10,000.

An apartment complex in Neeladri nagar (Ittina Mahavir) has about 1000 flats and about 100 residents owning pets. Many pet-owing residents are enforced by the  Ittina Mahavir Residential apartment owners. The pet-deposit is sought to be refunded treatment cost to victims in dog-bite incidents or failure to keep the premises clean.

Association is forcing every pet parent to pay 10,000 by November 15 with a forum. Failure to complete the process will lead to a fine of Rs.100 and send an attached mail with the rules and timings of dog walking.

Abhishek Agarwal, office bearer of the association argued that the rules are resident friendly and put in 2016 after consultation of lawyers. Agarwal said that the fees are refundable and will be returned to the residents when they vacate flats or get rid of pets. If pets attack or do some garbage in the flat there could be deductions in the amount if the parents fail to clean it.

According to the past experiences a dog parent will never be able to bear the victim’s medicines incase of the dog attack. In such situations, deposits help the victims for their medical bills. Collections of fees from a pet owner is illegal. Manjari Chaitanya Colaco an pet activist from NGO south says that “Owning a pet is a basic right of any resident, restricting it by imposing a fee is unlawful
