The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has given a big present to dog owners: the deadline for compulsory licensing, anti-rabies vaccination, and microchipping of pet dogs has been shifted from December 7 to December 14, 2025. This decision is taken in the full support of the community and is declared as the highlight of Chennai’s public health and animal welfare commitment. As the number of pets in the city increases, such measures are a clear sign of the city’s struggle to maintain a balance between the joys of having pets and the obligations of urban living, thus guaranteeing the good influence of animals on urban life.
