Jersey has been notifying dog owners to renew their dog licences in 2026 after sweeping changes in the dog control legislation on the island. The owners have been encouraged by the government to ensure all qualified dogs are licensed prior to 31 January 2026. This will make them not pay more, and the possibility of legal proceedings.
Dog owners are now required to state whether their dog is dangerous or not when they are seeking a licence. The requirement was introduced by the States of Jersey in November, following the review of the laws on dangerous dogs. The change was carried out by the officials due to the increasing level of public safety concerns.
The Committee of Constables elaborated by arguing that it was possible to apply dog licence online through its official site. The normal charge is still 10 pounds per dog, provided that the licence is renewed within the deadline or before the deadline. The cost of a licence that is applied past 31 January, however, will be increased by twice the amount, that is, 20 pounds per dog.
