CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A tragic incident occurred in the Pahadsinghpura area, where nine dogs found dead in Chatrapati Sambhajinagar, including a pet dog and eight stray dogs, four of which were puppies, on Friday. It is suspected that they consumed biscuits laced with poison. Following a complaint from the pet owner, the Begampura police have filed a case against an unknown individual.
Animal rights activists have strongly condemned the act and launched a social media campaign, urging authorities to identify and apprehend the perpetrator of the Nine dogs found dead in Chatrapati Sambhajinagar case.
According to the complainant, Usha Ghate, a 52-year-old resident, her six-year-old Labrador was off-leash around 6:45 a.m. on January 31 during its routine visit to a nearby ground. “Our pet usually goes to the ground to relieve itself, and we pick him up by 7 a.m. before heading for our walk. However, on that day, he returned distressed, vomiting, and experiencing loose motions,” Ghate shared.
Despite being rushed to a veterinary hospital, the pet dog succumbed during treatment. Ghate further stated, “Our acquaintances informed us that someone had scattered poisoned biscuits to kill stray dogs. When we reached the spot, we discovered eight stray animals lying dead.
Animal rights activist Beryl Sanchis denounced the incident, calling it a severe act of cruelty. “Poisoning dogs is the worst form of inhumanity. We have urged the police to find the culprit swiftly. Anyone facing issues with stray dogs should approach civic authorities or animal welfare organizations. Taking such a cruel step is unacceptable,” Sanchis remarked.
The Begampura police have registered an offense under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the crime of killing, maiming, or poisoning animals. Investigations are underway.
