What happens when a playful walk changes a dog’s life forever? Paralysed dog Flo, a six-year-old miniature Cockapoo, turned an ordinary game of fetch into an extraordinary fight for recovery. However, Flo refused to give up.
Flo was on a ball-chasing trip in Carlisle on the 29th of August when she fell against a tree stump, leading to her developing a serious spinal fracture between T12-T13. She ended up paralyzed in her hind limbs and tail.
Veterinary experts said that Flo would probably not walk anymore due to her serious injury and would never be able to use her hind limbs. There were even talks of putting her down.
But her family refused to give up on her.
Flo had spinal stabilization surgery, where nine screws and cement were employed to provide stability to her injured spine. Despite the fact that the operation was not supposed to restore movement, Flo started surprising everybody.
Through physical therapy and exercise, she started to move her tail and even move her hind legs. Her family has claimed that she is now even attempting to grasp someone’s finger using her paws.
Flo’s Road to Recovery Includes:
For Flo’s family, however, she means so much more than just a pet. She is a treasured part of their lives. Their journey to help her recover has been full of disbelief and hope through a very hard time.
The family has started a fundraising campaign to assist in covering Flo’s expenses for treatment and recovery. In less than six days, they were able to gather over £4,000 out of their target of £7,500.
Even though Flo has a long way to go, every step she takes is progress. Flo’s case is an example of how one can experience unexpected moments of hope during recovery when supported by a loving family.
