Pets Health Warning Signs Spot Them

Dr. Aishwarya R, a veterinary officer at Wiggles, emphasizes the importance of paying attention to changes in your pet’s behavior, as they can indicate serious health issues, including cancer.

Appetite and Weight Loss: Reduced appetite and sudden weight loss can signal cancer. Cancerous cells consume energy and nutrients, leading to weight loss. Even pets like parrots, hamsters, and rabbits may exhibit these symptoms.

Difficulty Eating or Swallowing: Struggling to eat or swallow could indicate cancer in cats, dogs, and other pets.

Sudden Lethargy: Uncharacteristic lethargy, accompanied by excessive sleeping and disinterest in activities, warrants a vet visit, as it could be a sign of pain or illness.

Vomiting, Diarrhea, and Bad Breath: Persistent vomiting and diarrhea, especially if accompanied by foul breath, may indicate cancer and require immediate veterinary attention.

Non-Healing Sores and Wounds: Cancer compromises the immune system, leading to non-healing sores and wounds in pets.

Lumps and Abnormal Swelling: Abdominal lumps and bumps may signify internal growths, requiring prompt diagnosis through methods like Fine Needle Aspirate (FNA).

Bleeding or Discharge: Any bleeding or discharge from body openings should be taken seriously and investigated promptly.

Breathing Issues: Difficulty breathing or breathlessness can be signs of cancer and need urgent veterinary care.

Additionally, seizures, urinary or fecal difficulties, and abnormal behavior should not be ignored. Regular monitoring and prompt veterinary attention are crucial for early detection and treatment of cancer in pets.
