Puppy adoption sponsorship has been extended through January, following the tremendous success of the December program at the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA (C-GHS). One of the long-time advocates and friends of the shelter has come forth to further the sponsorship to give new hope to the dogs that have been patiently waiting to get homes with loving owners.
The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA is now based on 111 Humane Society Road in Claverack, with complete facilities in kennels. According to Shelter employees, the ongoing sponsorship would be significant enough to prompt more families to think of adopting their family when winter comes.
Puppy adoption sponsorship helps remove financial barriers for families interested in adopting shelter dogs. The program covers the adoption costs, and this means that the family paying the adoption fee is able to find the right match and not worry about their initial expenses. Shelter officials feel that such an extension will see more dogs move out of the shelter to new loving homes.
Finding a home for Harley and Sammy, the two senior dogs that have been in the shelter for close to nine months, is one of the greatest expectations of the shelter in January.
Harley and Sammy are loving, kind dogs of age 7 1/2 years,s and they need to be comfortable, stable, and loved. Nonetheless, their needs are certain, and they have complicated the adoption process.
Harley and Sammy must either:
Shelter staff strongly hope to keep them together because they share a close bond. To make their adoption more appealing, a supporter has provided an additional sponsorship. If someone adopts both Harley and Sammy, the sponsor will cover six months of their medication, ensuring they receive proper care without added costs in their new home.
The extended sponsorship offers several advantages for adopters and shelter dogs:
Shelter representatives noted that senior dogs are often overlooked, even though they are calm, affectionate, and well suited for many homes. Programs like this help raise awareness for dogs who might otherwise spend longer periods in shelters.
Community members interested in adoption are encouraged to visit the shelter’s website or contact staff directly for more information.
Adopters can learn more about available dogs, adoption requirements, and how sponsorships work.
The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA expressed gratitude to the community and its donors for their continued support. Shelter officials emphasized that every adoption creates space for another dog in need and helps change many lives. As January marks the third month, the shelter hopes the continued sponsorship will give dogs like Harley and Sammy a second chance at a loving home and companionship.
