Tragic Loss Dogs’ Lives Poisoned Away

In a distressing incident near Arni in Tiruvannamalai district, a group of duck farmers caused the tragic deaths of over 20 street and pet dogs by distributing chicken meat contaminated with poison.

These farmers alleged that the street and pet dogs posed a threat to their ducks, often chasing and biting them during feeding times in nearby vegetation. In response, some farmers resorted to drastic measures, choosing to eliminate the dogs by scattering poison-laced chicken waste in areas where the dogs were known to roam. Tragically, fourteen street dogs and six pet dogs ingested the poisoned meat, resulting in their untimely demise. Their lifeless bodies were discovered scattered across various parts of the village, leaving pet owners devastated.

Upon finding the carcasses, distraught pet owners buried their beloved companions and appealed to the district police and administration to identify the responsible duck farmer and take strict legal action against them. Meanwhile, the villagers managed to identify one of the farmers involved in the poisoning. Following his acknowledgment of wrongdoing and assurance that such actions would not recur, the villagers opted not to pursue formal charges against him.

Despite the farmer’s apology, the incident sheds light on the need for greater awareness and measures to prevent such inhumane acts against animals in the future.
