The Tamil Nadu state Chief Minister, Mr M.K. Stalin, has virtually opened a Special Veterinary Complex in Ranipet. This has been a great move towards animal welfare services, especially concerning community dogs. The plant is the first of its kind in the state, where they raise and breed community dogs.
The newly launched Special Veterinary Complex in Ranipet aims to strengthen sterilization, vaccination, and post-operative care for community dogs. The project will implement an organized animal birth control (ABC) system to address the growing community dog population and improve overall population health.
The veterinary complex covers four acres and has up-to-date infrastructure to facilitate the all-around care of the animals.
Key facilities include:
Sterilization surgery and vaccination for community dogs are some of the major activities to be carried out by the Special Veterinary Complex, Ranipet.

Operational Details
Currently, Ranipet district is equipped with:
Veterinary hospitals in Walajah and Kaveripakkam currently handle only 25–30 sterilization cases per day, while the district records 5–7 dog bite incidents daily. The officials think that the new complex will go a long way in filling the gap in the ABC process.
After the already available veterinary hospital in the town of Ranipet is converted into a polyclinic, the area covered by the community dogs will go even higher. The collaboration between the District Animal Welfare Officer and the civic authorities will result in more effective identification and control of the community dogs in the villages and small towns.
The inauguration of the Special Veterinary Complex in Ranipet reflects the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to animal welfare, public health, and responsible community dog management. This project will have both the long-term advantages of the human control of the dog population and provide both pets and the residents with improved services and security.
