Meru, army tracker dog, retires, travels luxuriously.

Meru, a 9-year-old military dog from the 22 Army Dog Unit, recently retired after serving superbly as a tracker dog. His last voyage to his retirement home in Meerut touched many hearts online when a post went viral documenting his travel in a first AC coach on a train.

The post says, “Army Tracker Dog meru from the 22 Army Dog unit boarded train to meerut on retirement. The ministry of defense recently allowed all service dogs on retirement to now go AC 1st class with their handlers; He will spend the rest of his days at the Dogs retirement home at the Remount and Veterniary Corps Centre AC first class”.

The special care arises as a new policy of the ministry of Defence that allows retiring service dogs to travel in first-class AC compartments along with their handlers. It is a gesture that indeed shows the appreciation and respect for these animals that have spent their lives serving our country.

Meru has unwaveringly served with commitment and diligence for many years. He now deserves to take a rest. Recently, he paid a visit to the dogs’ retirement home at the RVC centre in Meeut and the trip became story of the year. Many people have been touched by his retirement journey such that they are sending him off into the sunset online as well as other places with best wishes.
